What is information technology?
Information Technology(IT) can simply be understood as the study or use of systems (especially computers and telecommunications) for storing, retrieving, and sending information. IT is a combination of both hardware and software working fluidly to produce the required results.
Why do we need to study information technology?

As we are moving more and more into the digital world, the need for IT is going to keep rising. From current IoT to soon Metaverse fully immersive of Mixed Reality. Even today basically every industry uses IT in some way or another more or less in production, analysis, sales, communication, education, and much more.
So why should you study IT?
I bet a lot of you are already interested in IT or some field in IT. As the demand for IT is only ever going to increase, there will be a lot of jobs ready for you. ( Even if you are going to study any major, we suggest you see the job availability and scope of it after 4 years and what you can do and study after studying it as your life will head in a different direction. ). Besides that, you have the flexibility of working at the time and place you choose. You also get to play and understand new technology whether new hardware or blockchain and cryptocurrency.
Which IT course is best in Nepal?
If you have a particular interest in a subject like graphics design, animation, ethical hacking, Network Engineering, etc there are majors where you only have focus and study mostly on these subjects that are required for the field.
So if you know what you want to study, we say go for it. Choosing a particular field will generally make you ready for the job by the time you graduate whereas a generalized course will teach you basic knowledge of a lot of fields but students have to choose and grind the field they want to work on.
As for BIT, BSc IT, BSc CSit and other IT courses, these are more or less similar courses; In simple words with BSc CSIT, you have to study more subjects of IT with computer science/math and with courses like BIT you are more inclined to IT with management.
There is no one definite best course even if the colleges you visit tell you so. We highly recommend you to check and compare the syllabus of courses and decide the course. Of course, there will be other factors like college fees, college distance from home, available seats, etc.
Even people from different backgrounds can be seen working in the IT field so your first priority should be improving both soft and technical skills.
What Will You Learn in an Information Technology Program?
This depends on the course syllabus your college/university has. Most IT courses have these:
Programming languages: C, Java , C++, python, Android programming, PHP/JS
Database: SQL, data structure and algorithm
Network: Networking, Security
Others: Computer Architecture, UI/UX design, Computer Graphics, Artificial Intelligence, Operating System, Software Project Management
Management: Organizational Management, Entrepreneurship, Technical Communication, Management Information System,
Maths: Discrete maths, Statistics, Calculus
Most IT majors will have these subjects with projects and internships in the final semesters. The course may not have all the subjects mentioned or be renamed and added few.
Is it hard to study IT?
No, studying IT is not hard at all. You might be seeing many words for the first time, many programming languages, and MATHS! but don’t panic. Not only you’ll be studying these in 4 years’ time but once you get the basic concept/idea of the subject it won’t be hard to study at all. I see a lot of people who hate math in school but most math courses will only add upon what you already studied in high school so if you are one of those who hated math in school you can keep hating it because chances are you might not use the maths while working at all. Once you get the hang of programming, even switching to another programming language is not difficult.
What is the scope of Information Technology in Nepal?
As we discussed before there will be a lot of jobs for IT but there will also be a lot of competition. In Nepal, you can apply for a government job, work for a private company, or freelance. I think most IT graduates in Nepal is working as freelancer right now. There is a huge market for freelancing for Nepal because the labor is cheap. Even now if you have some basic skills like photo editing and design, programming you can get some cash from sites like Upwork.com and Freelancer.com.

What is an IT job like?
This mostly depends on what line of work and what position you are working. And there are different lines of work. Programmers will be sitting on desk and type most of their day. Network and system admins might be chilling one moment and everything could be PANIC! PANIC!PANIC!. From asking customers to restart their device to Full-stack development there are different possibilities,
In most workplaces you can utilize your creativity, most work is flexible and you’ll find the best people in IT.
What is an IT job salary in the perspective of Nepal?
In the context of Nepal, starting salary begins from 15000. You’ll get a salary of up to 1lakh depending on skill and experience. But a bad trend I have seen is companies keep asking for Interns regularly. Companies keep taking advantage of students. But as long as you have skills you can land a job.
